Efficiency of Foreign Exchange Market Coursework
Effectiveness of Foreign Exchange Market - Coursework Example In effective markets, there are openings neither for the hedgers nor for the examiners to make super-ordinary benefits (Fama, 1970). In such a circumstance, theoretical proficiency and arbitraging effectiveness exist. The theoretical proficiency theory is the suggestion that says if there is theoretical effectiveness in the market, the normal pace of come back to due hypothesis in the forward outside trade advertise is zero (Hansen and Hodrick, 1980). The arbitraging proficiency theory is the suggestion that the normal pace of come back to secured or revealed premium exchange in the worldwide capital market is zero. Premium exchange is a type of exchange where assets are removed from home nation to put resources into a remote countryââ¬â¢s enthusiasm bearing protections. This procedure attempts to have benefit from the effect in loan cost of the two nations. Intrigue exchange is a focal idea to comprehend the outside trade developments. Writing Review For testing the theoretical e ffectiveness of any remote trade showcase, numerous academicians consider the speculation that the forward cost is the best estimate accessible of future spot cost. For the trial of arbitraging productivity, a few creators test secured intrigue equality (CIP), for example the equality between the forward rebate from the normal spot and the intrigue differential between a couple of monetary forms. Since exchanges expenses and hazard premium are there in the value, presently it has become a broadly known truth that, dismissing the CIP test doesnââ¬â¢t fundamentally suggest that the market is arbitraging wasteful. With regards to a basic forward market model it very well may be demonstrated that arbitraging proficiency can exist regardless of whether CIP doesn't hold and exchanges expenses and hazard premium are missing (Stein, 1965). In actuality, costs incorporate exchange expenses and there is a nearness of hazard premium for the hazard taken by taking situation on that specific resource. Since exchanges expenses and hazard premium exist by and by (Bilson, 1981); a takeoff from CIP doesn't really suggest arbitraging wastefulness. With exchanges expenses and hazard premium, it very well may be demonstrated that the invalid speculation for testing CIP contrasts from that for testing arbitraging proficiency. Visit disappointments of the trial of market productivity as the forward rebate goes amiss from either the premium differential or anticipated devaluation; have driven scientists to hypothesize the presence of a hazard premium. There have been likewise a great deal of instances of huge contrast of normal holding returns across resource classes. Besides the hazard premium has been time subordinate (Grauer et al, 1976). Analysts have regularly tried for a hazard premium as a component of the change of conjecture mistakes or of the conversion standard developments (Domowitz and Hakkio, 1985). A typical activity for analysts while testing for theoretical produ ctivity is that they underestimate that examiners are hazard impartial. Observational investigations for an enormous assortment of monetary standards and timeframes and for the ongoing coasting experience will in general report results which are negative to the proficient market speculation under hazard lack of bias (Longworth, 1981; Fama, 1984). For the period 1973 to 1979, Hansen and Hodrick (1980), utilizing week by week information and three-month forward rates and completing tests including the monetary standards of seven nations which are Canada, France, Italy,

As showed in the image beneath the passageway was regularly confronting the south, this implied negligible measure of light entered the structure. The wellspring of light originated from a fire which was set in the hovel. Picture 1 Ndebele customary cottages Traditional houses in Pretoria, South Africa have consistently planned for killing the greatest measure of daylight that could enter their cabins. In any case, during that time their hovels have advanced and changed because of the impacts that they had from the Sotho and Pedi neighbors. In regard to the components of the passage of their hovels, they have gotten greater implying that further light could enter the structure. This idea is like houses initially inherent Newbold Crossing. At first they had little window measurements, as they figured this would limit the measure of warmth that would enter the structure, however they experienced cold evenings and low degrees of lighting in houses. Before long they built up another idea where they would have bigger window measurements to permit light into a house so rooms would be lit up, thus that moderately low measure of warmth would be held inside the family unit for the cool night, making houses thermally progressively agreeable. This equivalent idea lead to the possibility of enormous windows been joined into Newbold Crossing. The idea has created as houses in this district have sunlight based aloof plan. The houses developed have explicit eave measurements to neutralize the measure of daylight the structure takes in. In the winter the sun has a low edge in regard to the skyline of the earth, and the most extreme measure of daylight is ingested to keep up the structure warm and sufficiently bright up. Be that as it may, in the late spring the point at which the sun is in regard to the skyline to the earth is more noteworthy, this is the place the roof are utilized to neutralize the impact of direct daylight by the structure. To additionally maintain a strategic distance from the plentiful measure of direct daylight, properties in Newbold have trees situated before huge windows. In the middle and different zones of a house that daylight doesn't come to, a lookout window is set up to help with characteristic lighting and stay away from carbon impressions. The fake technique for lighting in Newbold is through radiant lights and a portion of the more current houses use halogen downlights. In any case, the Clarence Valley Council (comparing board of Newbold) has set up activities and underscored the utilization of reduced bright lights which have less wattage ower however thusly doesn't require a similar measure of vitality to run, in this way it utilizes less power and limits carbon impressions. Taking at the top of the priority list that there is a lot of daylight all through the entire year into family units, so counterfeit lighting should just be utilized during the night or for undertakings that are mind boggling and require great lighting. The idea of human cloning is most interesting because it is most mysterious and very complex. The topic of human cloning inclusively brings up issues also raised in the mentioned technologies. Human cloning is of two types: therapeutic and reproductive. Therapeutic cloning aims to produce tissues or organs from cells of a cloned embryo, whereas reproductive cloning aims to further develop the cloned embryo into a human being (Glannon 89). Motivations for human cloning are therapeutic, research, and enhancement. Bioethicist John Harris explains that human cloning may benefit peopleââ¬â¢s understanding of genetic nature and abnormalities, as intended with animal cloning (148). Harris expands explaining that human cloning could, if proved safe, could provide an alternative or better choice to techniques, such as pre-implantation, for scientific testing (144). In addition, human cloning could supply needy people with organs (148). Most popular, human cloning would give people another way to have children of their own, helpful to infertile people and people with hereditary genetic diseases. (148). Essay on The Study of Human Race and Ethnicity - 2055 Words
Physical and Biological anthropologists have proven that human race indeed exists and is valid. Through modern bone analysis techniques like midfacial measurements and femur traits for example, we are now able to distinguish the biological background of different Homo sapiens. Forensic anthropologists identify human remains based on their race. Race is the key to science. The biggest misconception of race is racism. Race has become this controversial topic that is considered taboo in todayââ¬â¢s society. Many argue that race is not in fact the way to defines human background/culture. The opposition claims that environmental adaptation is the number one reason for our appearance. Environment alone will not answer the question. Doesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Many believe that environment causes or explains everything but it does not. Race exists, but the definition of race needs to be understood. Race does not exist in the same way as, ââ¬Å"dogâ⬠and ââ¬Å"cat â⬠exists. Categorizing Black and White will not be referring to superior or inferior species. If you ask any scientist and corner them on the issue of race, then youââ¬â¢ll find that the correct definition of race is to think in terms of dog breeds, cat breeds, and horse breeds for example (White, Guy). To better understand this concept, human race can be compared to the different breeds of dogs. When you say we are ââ¬Å"blackâ⬠or ââ¬Å"whiteâ⬠, youââ¬â¢re saying, weââ¬â¢re like ââ¬Å"bull terriersâ⬠or ââ¬Å"German Shepherdsâ⬠. That is the correct, genetic and scientific perspective of race. But nobody will come out and tell you this. No one wants to compare humans to animals. Dogs can breed with other dogs, and when they do you get ââ¬Å"mixed breedsâ⬠, which is the equivalent of ââ¬Å"mixed raceâ⬠in humans. Blacks and Whites can interbreed. Weââ¬â¢re not separate species. We are of the same species, same blood ty pe, and same DNA sequence. It is just that we are different variations within the same species. The problem with race is that it is not as clear and as definitive and divided as species. Nature does not allow you to interbreed a cat and a dog. So it is a very pronounced and definitive concept whereas ââ¬Å"breedâ⬠and ââ¬Å"raceâ⬠are more like a fashion. Essay about National Honor Society Membership Request Letter Essay Example For Students
Essay about National Honor Society Membership Request Letter Essay Being a member of the National Honor Society would allow me to continue my commitment to community service. I have developed my character and leadership skills in my previous community service projects. Some of my community service projects have included my silver award (Girl Scouts) that fixed the hoophouse by the elementary school, taught a local troop about recycling for the journey to my gold award, my bronze award which I babysat kids during Christmas, the community egg hunt, yearly flower planting at Cousinââ¬â¢s Park, the humane society, basketball and football concessions, working lugnuts, and parking for MSU football games. My favorite service project was my silver award for girl scouts. Before Jamie Lince, Faith Brown, and I did the silver award the hoophouse by the elementary school was very rundown. There were holes in the plastic, weeds in the beds, and the wood chips in the aisles were worn down. The hoophouse couldnââ¬â¢t be used. We wanted to fix that problem. First we applied for grants. I never knew how many steps or how much time this would take. It really taught me how to handle deadlines so things get turned in on time. It also taught me that there are people that want to support you, and you just need to find them. The two grants that we received were a Lowes grant for fifteen-hundred dollars and a seed grant from Van Attaââ¬â¢s. The second step was to get people to help weed out the beds so we could plant the seeds we got from the grant. This took a few hours and a lot of people from the community showed up to help. The Lowes grant was used for the plastic that goes on the outside of the hoophouse and new wood chips for the aisles in the hoophouse. We had to have the help of Mr. Montry who makes hoop house. .lways have to try your best and want to win. Sports also teach students teamwork skills. In order to succeed you need to have the ability work with others.A memory of being determined was during my last volleyball season. It definitely did not go the way we all had hoped. During the regular season we only had two wins out of nine. When we had entered districts our first draw was Laingsburg. We hadnââ¬â¢t beat them in the four times we played them. Still none of us gave up; we just wanted to prove that we could win. That game we all went out there and believed that we could win. We were so determined, and it payed off. That was the first time that Bath beat Laingsburg that season. Being a member of the National Honor Society would give me a opportunity to further develop my service and leadership skills. I know this will also help me shape my good character traits.

Scientists have attempted to study the effects of sleep and its role on our existence but have yet to come up with an accurate reason why we need sleep. Yes, we do need sleep. All animals, be they mammal, amphibian, aquatic, etc., need some form of sleep in order to rejuvenate their body and/or mind. Without sleep our bodies tend to experience some type of mental or physical malfunctions. Some of us human beings can even become down right incapable of proper social function. In other words, cranky frustrated emotional nutcases. So, sleep does play an important role in our daily functions, and no matter what we must fit it into our lives/schedule. Edison's light bulb can be considered one of the major technological ?curses? of the modern age, says sleep researcher Harvey Moldofsky, chief psychiatrist at Toronto Western Hospital. Edison believed that his light bulb would liberate us from the night and in the process transform our lives. The fact that the light bulb served as a reliable, controlled was to, banish the night, did not act as perhaps Edison hoped it would. Yet, it helped banish our need for sleep. And with this a change in our sleeping patterns. This is one of the ultimate causes of sleep problems. Insomnia is the perception or complaint of inadequate or poor-quality sleep because of one or more of the following: difficulty sleeping, waking up too early, unrefreshing sleep, waking frequently through the night. When one has Insomnia it is difficult to initiate and/or maintain sleep. Some believe that Insomnia is not a disorder, it is a symptom that often indicated other problems. Other diagnosis, hold that Insomnia is the most common of all sleep disorders and perhaps the most frequent health complaint after pain. Severe cases can disrupt social and occupational function and is associated with depression, fatigue, and anxiety. There are different types of Insomnia which affect our sleep patterns in many different ways. Types of Insomnia are: Sleep Onset Insomnia (delayed sleep Phase Syndrome): a disorder in which the major sleep episode is delayed in relation to the desires clock time which one wishes to be awakened. Idiopathic Insomnia: A life long inability to obtain adequate sleep that is due to an abnormality of the neurological control of the sleep-wake system. Psychophysiological Insomnia: A disorder or somatized tension (conversion of anxiety into physical symptoms) and learned sleep - preventing associated with results in a complaint of Insomnia and associated decreased functioning during wakefulness. Childhood Insomnia (limit-setting Sleep Disorder): Primarily a childhood disorder that is characterized by the inadequate enforcement of bed times by a caretaker with resultant stalling or refusal to go to bed at the appropriate time. Food Allergy Insomnia: A disorder of initiating and maintaining sleep due to an allergic response to food allergens. Environmental Insomnia (Environmental Sleep disorder): A sleep disorder disturbance due to a disturbing environmental factor that causes a complaint of either Insomnia or excessive sleepiness. Transient Insomnia (Adjustment Sleep Disorder): Represents sleep disturbance temporally related to acute stress, conflict or environmental change causing emotional agitation. Periodic Insomnia (Non 24-Hour Sleep-Wake Syndrome): Consists of a chronic steady pattern consisting of 1-2 hour daily delays in sleep onset and wake times in an individual living in society. Altitude Insomnia: An acute Insomnia usually accompanied by headaches, loss of appetite, and fatigue, that occurs following ascent to high altitudes. Hypnotic-Dependency Insomnia (Hypnotic ? World Migration essays
World Migration essays It has been some years since foreign laborers were in common in Japan. Recently, we can see the foreign laborers everywhere in Japan. While foreign laborers have been increasing, the number of people going abroad has been increasing year by year. And it comes to be very common to go abroad on vacation or business. Now the number of people going abroad in a year is more than 10 million people.(1) Though the foreign laborer is in common in Japan now, almost Japanese people are apt to be puzzled the way of touching foreigners. Kuwahara said, "this phenomenon is the same as the word, internationalization, which looks clear, but in fact vague."(2) In this essay, looking at each country's each correspondence of migrants, I would like to point out the relationship between migrants and inhabitants in each country. Do you the laborers themselves think of the effect on the countries going to work to they may not think about the effect on each countries, but the government of the countries that the laborers leave have the other expectations. By sending the laborers to other countries, the unemployment rate is decreased. By remittances to the countries the laborers leave, the governments get international revenues. Originally, migrants are that the laborers came to live the countries going to work in. However, they began to change in the present day. We often think the migrants leave from their mother countries, and decide to die in the countries where they go to work some day. But, various kinds of migrants are all over the world in the present age. Though the destitute are not regarded as migrants normally, I am going to think that the destitute are a sort of migrants. Migrants have many problems since old times and even now. The problems were caused by migrants, residents, and governments. And the problems are different from country to country. In this essay, I would like to inquire into the matters and the profits of migrants. Firs...

Verizon Wireless Marketing Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Verizon Wireless Marketing - Case Study Example Verizon Business provides communications and information technology (IT) services to global business and government clients. Headquartered in Basking Ridge, N.J., Verizon Wireless has the largest number of retail customers in the industry and is the most profitable wireless company in the U.S. The company is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE and LSE: VOD). (Verizon Wireless, 2008) Since wireless is the way of the future, the wireless divisions of these companies is the most hotly contested, and the focus of this "Battle of the Brands." It is important to note that despite Verizon Wireless bearing solely Verizon's name, it is not owned by just them, it is a 55%-45% joint venture between Verizon and Vodafone Group (NYSE: VOD). It is also important to note that AT&T Mobility is the service formerly known as Cingular, which was acquired by AT&T in 2006 when it bought BellSouth for $86B. Verizon Wireless lives up to its tagline as "America's Most Reliable Wireless Network". By doing so, it is the only major wireless company that offers a test-drive pledge that pays calls if a customer isn't satisfied and switches to another carrier. This marketing strategy is believed to have been backed upon by a broad marketing research. Verizon Wireless have focused on strengthening its customer loyalty, making it their edge from their competitors. It is believed to have the highest customer loyalty in the industry based on lowest-in-industry churn. -- footnote Compared to AT&T which is their serious challenger in wireless network, Verizon Wireless' products are almost the same with its competitor. Thus, the need to identify an area where they can perform better. Based on marketing research conducted, in order to increase customers of an industry, you need to increase a customer's trust in your products. Launching the Verizon Wireless Test Driver's Manual is a very strategic tactic that has been very effective for the company. It definitely achieved their objective to increase their trial rate. When a product if of high quality performance, a very vital percent, if not 100%, will lead to purchase rate and will then lead to re-purchase rate of customers until customer loyalty is established. By reading the mind of their consumers, Verizon Wireless knew exactly that their products are of high quality standards, leaving a little, if not zero, room for shifting to competition. None of this will be achieved if no marketing research has been intr icately done to its market. Competitive intelligence plays a vital role in analyzing competition of AT&T and Verizon Wireless. To analyze each of the company's stregths and weaknesses is important in order to come up with strategies to counter each other's marketing points. In detail, the present market of AT&T is composed of 71 million users againt 65 million users of Verizon Wireless. Looking first at Verizon Wireless, its strategy is simple. It focuses on the strength of its network as its main selling point. From the company's "Can you hear me now" ads, to the current "It's the network" ads, the point the company conveys is that if you have Verizon, you are covered by the biggest and most reliable network. AT&T's most memorable recent ads may be Martin Scorsese "We won't interrupt your phone calls, please don't interrupt our movies" ads that play at the cinema, but the company also runs television ads that focus on "more bars in more

Suffering Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Suffering - Essay Example Inc, 2009)At a time where comfort and convenience are common market commodities, with things such as instant food, instant shopping and even instant help so prevalent, the society has lost the appreciation of sacrifice and self-denial. As a result, we have become accustomed to labelling small comfort and convenience disruptions as sufferings. There are, of course those who are inevitably suffering pain, those with terminal illness or emotional burdens, coping with a loss or bearing bodily pains. At these times, when, no material thing can bring about healing, no words, no touch are enough to console, will there really be someone who can bring comfort If someone has authored or at least allowed sufferings, will He also be there to appease The issue of suffering can be viewed from different views and fields. It can be studied philosophically, can also be of examined by mere reasons and most of all, and most prominently, it can be scrutinized in view of faith. Indeed many people have tried to explain sufferings, both those who believe and those who do not believe in the existence of God. An article of Arthur Schopenhauer says that "unless suffering is the direct and immediate object of life, our existence must entirely fail of its aim. It is absurd to look upon the enormous amount of pain that abounds everywhere in the world, and originates in needs and necessities inseparable from life itself, as serving no purpose at all and the result of mere chance (Schopenhauer). Even the great philosopher believes that it is futile to consider suffering as no purpose at all. He associated it with our needs which ordinarily come with life. An academician from the East, who happened to be an Islam, also had a slice of view on suffering on a lecture that he has conducted in one of the premier universities. According to him, suffering is not necessarily negative. It is unavoidable because our world is far from perfect and that what matters most is our view of it. It is negative to those who see it as a stumbling block and positive to those who approach it as a stepping stone toward his perfection and spiritual growth (Espiritu, 2006). Michael Martin has evalutead william Craig's oral debates about the concept of suffering. The latter saying that sufferings increases acceptance of God and Christian evangelism such as what happened in the country of El Salvador (Martin, 1997). He has dismissed this argument however as according to him, it runs in contrast to rationality. Bob and Gretchen Passantino tried to answer the question, "If God is good, why is there too much suffering in the world" The article says that, suffering is the consequence of wrong choices specifically of sins (Bob Passantino, 1997). God has given us the freewill so that when we reap the consequences of our choice. He added further that, although God allows people to make wrong choices, as He has not created us to be robots, He works in the midst of suffering for our favor. God has the assurance that He will elimitane suffering in the last time, through the suffering that Jesus Christ Himself has underwent, and that's the greatest comfort that we can receive. Another article posted online by the United Church of God asks, "Is God indifferent to Human Suffering". When we label catstrophes such as hurricane, thypoons ans earthquakes that claim thousands of lives to be "acts of God", we tend to look at God as indifferent and heartless (United Church of Go

Interrupt and a Trap in an Operating System Essay Example for Free
Interrupt and a Trap in an Operating System Essay What are the differences between an interrupt and a trap? What are their importance? According to Stallings (2012) an interrupt is ââ¬Å"a suspension of a process, such as the execution of a computer program, caused by an event external to that process and performed in such a way that the process can be resumedâ⬠(p. 716). Stallings (2012) goes on to say that ââ¬Å"interrupts are provided primarily as a way to improve processor utilization. For example, most I/O devices are much slower than the processorâ⬠(p. 14). ââ¬Å"A trap is an unprogrammed conditional jump to a specified address that is automatically activated by hardware; the location from which the jump was made is recordedâ⬠(Stallings, 2012, p. 721). A trap is actually a software generated interrupt caused either by an error (for example division by zero, invalid memory access etc.), or by a specific request by an operating system service generated by a user program. Trap is sometimes called Exception. The hardware or software can generate these interrupts. When the interrupt or trap occurs, the hardware transfers control to the operating system which first preserves the current state of the system by saving the current CPU registers content and program counters value. Then the focus shifts to the determination of which type of interrupt has occurred. For each type of interrupt, separate segments of code in the operating system determine what action should be taken and thus the system keeps on functioning by executing computational instruction, I/O instruction, storage instruction etc. Provide an example of each. Example of an Interrupt retrieved from http://www.scriptoriumdesigns.com/embedded/show_codefile.php?fname=interrupts/AVR_ISR_1.c // AVR_ISR_1 #include avr/io.h #include avr/interrupt.h typedef uint8_t u8; // convenient unsigned variable designations typedef uint16_t u16; #define INPORT PIND #define OUTPORT PORTC #define OUTDDR DDRC volatile u8 Int_flag = 0; ISR( INT0_vect ) { OUTPORT ^= 0x01; // toggle LED } void int0_init( void ) { MCUCR = (1ISC01); // enable negative edge on INT0 GICR = (1INT0); // enable INT0 } int main( void ) { OUTDDR = 0x01; // set bit 0 to output OUTPORT = 0x01; // set LED off (active low) int0_init(); // configure INT0 sei(); // enable global interrupts while (1) // loop forever, all work happens in ISR ; return(0); Example of a trap retrieved from http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/au-usingtraps/index.html #!/bin/bash # proj_dir=/opt/pcake/bin # check file is present if [ ! -f $proj_dir/run_pj ] then echo $proj_dir/run_pj not presentexiting exit 1 fi # make a backup copy cp -p $proj_dir/run_pj $proj_dir/run_pj.24042011 if [ $? != 0 ] then echo $proj_dir/run_pj no backup madeexiting exit 1 fi # copy over updated file if [ ! -f /opt/dump/rollout/run_pj ] then echo /opt/dump/rollout/run_pj not presentexiting exit 1 fi cp -p /opt/dump/rollout/run_pj $proj_dir/run_pj if [ $? != 0 ] then echo $proj_dir/run_pj was not copied..exiting exit 1 fi References: Stallings, W. Iranian Education Essay -- Iran Middle East
Iranian Education: From Modernization to Traditionalism An education system, because of its purpose as the shaper of the future, is a good indicator of what is going on within a country politically and culturally. The history of the Iranian education system showed change as the ideological values of the country shifted with each new regime change in the mid twentieth century. Iran, as a country, went from a country focused on modernization and secularization under the Reza Shah, to a country focused on traditional Islamic values under the new government established after the Islamic Revolution of 1977-791. These changes shifted the very purpose of education, its impact on women (in arguably negative or positive ways), and its literature. The shift in political focus from modernism to religious traditionalism can also be seen in how religion is taught in Iran, especially compared with different countries around the world. The history of the Iranian education system from 1907-1977 is one that is filled with problems. In 1907, Iran established a Ministry of Science and Art to control all areas of education, even religious education. In 1910, this ministry was reorganized and renamed the Ministry of Education, and given more power to set laws and guidelines for education, religious and secular. This body was not necessarily effective in setting new guidelines for Iranian schools. The main problem was overcoming was the lack of qualified, quality teachers (Szyliowicz 176- 7). After 1925, the Shah2 built many new schools and tried to revitalize the educational system. This effort was hampered again, by lack of qualified teachers (Szyliowicz 231), a lack of coherent ideology (Szyliowicz 232), and a program of edu... ...ern Iran. Spelling Bee Descriptive Essay - 731 Words
One chilly December morning, I was walking into my school, reading a spelling book, cuddling inside my warm woolen jacket. Little did I know that I walked into a wall, ââ¬Å"Ow!â⬠I shrieked. I rubbed my forehead and went back to reading and memorizing my spelling book. Today was our schoolââ¬â¢s annual spelling bee competition. I suddenly remembered that I had better get to my classroom fast. I ran as fast as I could with a heavy backpack, a lunchbox, and a bulky woolen jacket. I got there just in time for the line-up. I shoved my backpack and lunchbox under my desk and threw my jacket onto my chair. I scurried after the line to the auditorium. My name was called after many others. I had to spell the word too but wasnââ¬â¢t ready to do so. I stalled by asking a few questions. ââ¬Å"Um, would you tell me what kind of word it isâ⬠, I asked. The judge in his British accent said, ââ¬Å"Have you ever looked at your fingerââ¬â¢s Subdermatoglyphicâ⬠. Next, I asked him, ââ¬Å"Is the part of speech provided? If yes, what is the part of speech?â⬠I knew that I had been stalling for over few minutes and I could tell that everyone was getting impatient. The judge answered ââ¬Å"No, it, wellâ⬠¦it has not been providedâ⬠. He then asked me ââ¬Å"will you spell the word, Subdermatoglyphic,â⬠I asked him to repeat the word. Descriptive Essay - Original Shores - 981 Words
Familiar Shores The waves were tauntingly calm that day, after the hurricane of fast-paced incidents that uprooted Johnââ¬â¢s life from the very beginning. He didnââ¬â¢t think he would have changed it, even if he had a choice. He pulled his brimmed hat further over his droopy eyes and squirmed into a more comfortable position on the makeshift hammock, recalling the very first day. John had found himself conflicted. His hands tugged through his rapidly greying hair, peppered areas of darkness disappearing more and more each day. He had never been the type of man to turn down any opportunity to aid his niece, his only remaining family, but diving to the ocean floor? He hadnââ¬â¢t touched his equipment in over two decades. The elders watched on carefully from the sanctuary of their homes, exuding mild hostility. John was unaffected. He had a solid goal in mind, pulsing with determination. John pulled on his diving equipment but with every turn of his back, he heard frantic scuttling and finding the source, he was met with the sight of a retreating back kicking up sand and a handful of tropical fruits left on his bag. After a while, the pile grew into a small mountain, strays rolling on the sand. It was distracting and he was annoyed. The first dive was a test dive. A warm-up. When he resurfaced, only two children remained seated next to his bag, helping themselves to the fruits. They watched him trudge back up shore, squealing as he shook water out of his hair. They crept closer and prodded his diving gear with sticky fingers. He attempted to look irritated, but their pure and innocent, if not mischievous, curiosity reminded him of his beloved niece. He decided he needed something more thrilling than a simple test dive. Tailed by the children, he eyed the dangerous rocky areas, further away from calmer waters. Reviewing Homers Iliad and Odyssey Sophocles Oedipus Rex
Question: Describe about the Reviewing Homers Iliad and Odyssey Sophocles Oedipus Rex? Answer: Homers Iliad and Odyssey are supposed to be the most convenient epic ever written in any literature. Himself being blind, approach of Homer in developing such epic is nothing less than adventurous. This study is going to set the frame of review of Homers Iliad and Odyssey, Sophocles Oedipus Rex having been compared with Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus. Iliad is nothing but a notary of love and treachery. Myrsiades is of this view if Paris would not have been licentious in its character in eloping with gorgeous Helen, in no way the novel would have been framed. At the same time, it may not have let the literature to have such warriors like Achilles, Odysseus or Hector. Act of revenge by red haired Menelaus instigated Agamemnon to siege the walls of Troy. On the other hand, division of Gods within the two clashing groups, Apollo, Poseidon on the side of Troy and Athena on Greece (Bagby). Wealth and overbearing attitude of Agamemnon can crushing and crumbling down against the great Trojan worriers until the Great Trojan Horse episode that destroyed the organized approach of Trojans. Irony of fate came crushing down severely on Troy (Vergados). Blasphemy of fate also let Agamemnon and great warrior Achilles to be killed severely. Homer paints up every inches of the epic having been tinged with essential intricacies. Journey of Odysseus back to its native country, Ithaca from the battlefield of Troy after its fall is jotted down in Odyssey. Surprising, the journey took around ten years. Telemachus approach of protecting the state and her mother Penelope from the hand of her suitors of the court, first let the plot of the epic to be developed. Different mythical creatures like Siren, Calypso came alive in this epic and presented their role in the development of the epic as well. Using of the metaphors, according to Bagby, by Homer has enlivened the epical approach. Both the linear and the non-linear poetic style of the poem helps it becoming succinctly noteworthy. Curtin has essentially stated that the complete journey of life of a human being has been presented by the writer. Homer put Odysseus into succinct adventurer and explorer. A prompt geographic sequence is succinctly maintained by the writer that has gone coherent in developing the context of the epic. But again the hand of divinity could not have been avoided. It seems to have created problems, however, as the epic tells all is for good is restored ultimately. Oedipus Rex a marvel presented by Sophocles is a tragedy that historically presents how a common man Oedipus becomes a king and had killed his father married his mother only to fulfill the prophesy. The play has been written in the classical format as described by Aristotle. Presentation of catharsis in the play is literally significant. Being in the top of the power, Oedipus started misusing his power that landed him down to such a position (Davies). The play essentially projects how own fault leads a human being slide down from the essence of top being reverse to the portrayal of destiny as the sole cause of all the downfall. Although the appearance and application of divinity is gallant in this play, however, it is needed to be stated that presentation of Freudian reality in the play has made Sophocles to become essentially developed (Mahony). Divine curse preached on the mistakes of Oedipus seem to have let his character to be suffering from several problems. Presenting life as a matter of essential vortex fueled the play to have developed essentially. In order to compare the ancient tragic theories with Oedipus Rex, Iliad and Odyssey application of them in Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus seem to have also a successful presentation (Marshall and Ojiako). As the action of the play is limited, approach of the speeches and other necessary thoughts seems to have gained weight. Again the victory of Zeus, rather say divinity with the fight of human being is essentially presented through the pages of the play (Kitagawa). Similar to Iliad and Oedipus Rex human essence is cryptically attained in this play. But the ray of hope in the fall is essentially attained and manifested that leads in persuading lustrous approach. Critical approaches are put behind in order to present more coherence. Throughout this study the researcher has tried to present the knowledge gathered from the different tragic drama and epics. Conflict between the divinity and human existence presented in every epoch is also presented in the context of study. Reference List: Bagby, L. M. J. It had been a turbulant twenty years for our young American and the worst and the best weve yet to come. On December 7th 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Across America on that Saturday afternoon the stunning news from the radio electrified the nation and changed the lives of all who heard It. The young Americans of this time constituted a generation birth marked for greatness. A generation of Americans that would take its place in American history. It may be historically premature to Judge the greatest generation but indisputably here are common traits that cannot be denied Its a generation of towering achievement and modest demeanor. Analytical Essay Sample on Same Sex Marriage and Artificial Insemination
Analytical Essay Sample on Same Sex Marriage and Artificial Insemination Same Sex Marriage and Artificial Insemination By eradicating the significance of the functional complementarity between men and women, those with ardent feminist agendas and with other ulterior motives may be seeking to (ultimately) undermine the humanity of males in our society; in other words, if men are already being pushed out of the lives of their children through systemically biased divorce and family law courts, then suggesting that men are not needed for the procreative process, either (courtesy the wide-spread use of artificial insemination), may lead to a general sense that maybe men are not needed for anything ââ¬â be it in the professional workplace or in the home. In the end, with sex-specific abortions now becoming popular in Canada, a wholesale assault upon male fetuses and upon males in general could result. Finally, there is sufficient evidence out there highlighting the negative effects of households headed by homosexual couples upon children for society to re-examine its current acceptance of the idea that homosexual couples (perhaps couples inseminated by artificial means) should automatically be given right to be parents. In the end, too many questions have been left unanswered ââ¬â and it may be our children who suffer as a result. In his searching examination of same-sex marriage and its ethical (and pragmatic) viability, William E. May notes that the book of Genesis holds both men and women to be equal ââ¬â to be complementary partners in a union created by God. More than that, the ancient and authoritative biblical texts make it abundantly clear that God is the creator of marriage and that this union is to be a personal and intimate one wherein man and woman unite in one body (by choice) and remain locked in this embrace for all-time. In effect, spouses are ââ¬Å"non-substitutableâ⬠entities that must be linked to one another (May, ââ¬Å"Marriage and the Complementarity of Male and Female,â⬠1-5). To put what has been stated above in the simplest terms, May is suggesting that the Holy Scriptures expressly call for marriage to be a partnership between equals, a union that is to be entered into freely, and a union that is to remain in place until (literally) death separates the pair. Seen in th at light, there is really no place for homosexual unions insofar as the Scriptures call for man to be conjoined to woman ââ¬â not man to be conjoined to man or woman to woman (May, ââ¬Å"Marriage and the Complementarity of Male and Female,â⬠2-3; for a further defense of the idea of complementarity, please see May, ââ¬Å"On the Impossibility of Same-Sex Marriage,â⬠6-7). The reasons why homosexual union appears to be frowned upon by the Church ties into the notion of complementarity; that is to say, pairs of men and pairs of women cannot conceive children via natural means. In short, the procreative process (at least if it involves natural means) is only possible if one man and one woman are involved. As May understands the matter, (natural) fertility is a blessing of God and demands the active participation of both genders. More than that, the ability to procreate gives human couples the creative power that would otherwise be limited to God alone; thus, the natural process of mating is an act that should not be trifled with inasmuch as man and woman ââ¬â in their natural states as God designed them ââ¬â have been rendered in Gods image (or at least man has been rendered in Gods image) and have been given the responsibility of carrying out a procreative act sanctioned by the Almighty (May, 5). Clearly, man and woman have been designed the way they have for a reason, and it would be unwise to alter this complementary state by allowing lesbians to become pregnant via artificial insemination. Moreover, it is fair to ask what ulterior purposes lurk in any effort to rend man from the procreative process. At the present time, it is surprisingly difficult to find scholarly articles that detail and measure the degree of bias that exists against father seeking custody of their children in Canada. However, there has certainly been a sense that Canadian law, Canadian child services agencies, and political elites (each for its own reason or reasons) have all favored women over men in custody and child visitation battles ââ¬â with children becoming undeserving victims in these situations (Sillars, 39-42). As one can reason, if there is a general sentiment that fathers should not have generous visitation rights, and if statistics indicate that less than 10 percent of single-parent households in Canada are headed by a man (Denike et al, Myth 1) then it is plain to see that fathers are not being sufficiently encouraged to participate in the raising of their children; indeed, ther e may even be an active movement afoot to discredit them as care-givers and to harass them out of pursuing greater involvement in their childrenââ¬â¢s lives. For a good example of this sort of mind-set, please refer to a web page maintained by Simon Fraser Universitys Feminist Research Education Development and Action Center wherein it is stated, quite frankly, that fathers who petition the courts for greater access to their children and for a greater involvement in their lives are simply doing this so that they might ââ¬Å"harassâ⬠their ex-spouses (Denike et al., Myth 2). Clearly, this sort of aggrieved material is proof of a broader effort to undermine the contributions of men to families and to the lives of their children. If what has been stated above is at all true (and it is hard to argue that it is not) then the next logical step on the part of those favoring artificial insemination for lesbian couples is for them to challenge the entire notion of complementarity; specifically, if fathers are not needed for child-rearing (or at least are not valued as child-rearers), then why should women have to endure men in the procreative process itself? The ultimate effect of this is to make men dispensable in a fundamental and troubling way ââ¬â and, given as our society now has the technology available to permit wealthy women to engage in sex-specific abortions, it may not be long before male fetuses are aborted strictly because of their sex and because they are not needed in a world where artificial insemination, affirmative action programs and controversial child custody battles have all conspired to make roughly half of the population unwanted and unneeded. While it should certainly not be over-stated , any broad policy measure that diminishes the humanity and importance of any group of humans (especially those who are viewed as less important simply because of their gender) is one that desperately needs to be reviewed ââ¬â and the insemination of lesbian couples is surely one such item.
